WNHS boys soccer team kick off the season with service work

Members of the Westerville North High School boys soccer team kicked off their first team event on Friday by helping Robert Frost Elementary’s PTA clear up the school’s garden beds for the start of the year.

Volunteer work offers players an opportunity to deepen the bond they’ve built on the soccer field and show their support of the community. For Coach Nate Hartnell, it's also a chance for student leaders to connect with younger players.

"We bring them together and challenge our upper classmen seniors to group with underclassman and pass on what we expect from a Westerville North soccer player," said Hartnell, who is working with community partners and school leaders to link his team with future service projects.

Robert Frost third-grade teachers use the garden for a unit in the fall where students plant vegetables and donate them to the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.).
