Wilder Elementary selects “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for school-wide book read
For the next three weeks, the students and staff at Wilder Elementary are diving into the beloved Roald Dahl classic, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for their school-wide book read.
Staff members kicked-off festivities at a school-wide assembly Tuesday morning where school counselor Natalie Cross dressed as Willy Wonka and introduced other characters from the story.
For Wilder educators, the school-wide activity helps students see the Wilder Way traits in action through the main character, Charlie Bucket.
“The theme of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is good things come to those who are good,” Principal Dr. Victoria Hazlett said to students during the assembly. “Charlie practices the Wilder way by being kind, respectful, responsible. And when he’s faced with the challenge, he does the right thing and grows from his experience.”
She encouraged them to focus on Charlie while reading the book and observe how he follows the Wilder way.
As part of the book read, all teachers will read chapters of the book each day in their classrooms. Educators will announce trivia questions covering what they read during the morning announcements the next day, giving students the opportunity to win prizes each week.
