Two WCSD classroom grant proposals up for community support in WEF’s Golden Butterfly campaign

The Westerville community is invited to donate towards two Westerville City Schools classroom grant proposals as part of the Westerville Education Foundation’s Golden Butterfly campaign. WEF will match up to $1,000 of funds raised for each project. They include:

  • Genoa Middle School Fossil Garden; Fundraising goal: $3,642
    • Deb Bergmann, an English Learners paraprofessional, has proposed bringing shale rock from the LaFarge Quarry in Paulding, Ohio to create a LaFarge Fossil Garden at Genoa. The shale deposit includes fossil-bearing material from the Devonian periods when Ohio was covered by a deep ocean basin and for years, the quarry was open to professional and amateur fossil collectors. Genoa’s LaFarge Fossil Garden would not only be a resource for Genoa and Fouse Elementary students but students throughout the district and community members as well.
  • Celebrating World Cultures with Music, Movement, and Art; Fundraising goal: $3,600
    • Music teacher Jennifer Hall has proposed providing art supplies and drums for Robert Frost’s second annual World Cultures Night where families and educators come together to share unique aspects of their culture with the greater school community.
