Rotary Club of Westerville Students of the Month for November

The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its November 2023 Students of the Month during a Nov. 2 meeting. Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month. Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools. The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at a Rotary Club luncheon each month.

November 2023 Honoree Profiles

Westerville Central: Kameelah Haley’s favorite subject is English. The senior is a member of the WCHS’ student equity council, the Symphonic Women's choir, the yearbook staff, the Epiphany creative writing club and the BBQ (Beautiful Black Queens) club. The awards and recognitions she has received include student of the month and honor roll. She is interested in attending University of California at Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Cal State LA and Cal State Fullerton to double major in English language arts and English literature with a minor in creative writing.

Westerville North: Caroline Tenney’s favorite subjects are English and business. The senior is a member of the cross country and track teams, Warrior Athletic Leadership Team, National Honor Society and WarriorThon, a club that raises money to fight pediatric cancer. She is also a class officer and a Hope Squad student leader. She works part-time, is involved in her church and has received multiple awards in athletics and academics. She is interested in attending a year-long international Bible school in Germany or attending a four-year university. “Thank you for this recognition and opportunity to share.”

Westerville South: Raul Diaz’s favorite classes are anatomy and physics. The senior has been captain of the varsity soccer team for three years and serves as a Hope Squad student leader, Student Council member, a National Honor Society member and a WSHS Theater Troupe 513 board member with a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He also participates in indoor soccer, works part-time and is involved in his church. He has been on the school’s honor roll, was named MVP of the soccer team during his junior year and won Best Actor honors during the production of “Rumors.” He plans to attend Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, Kent State University and Ohio University to major in nursing. “Thank you so much to the Rotary Club for this recognition. Big thanks to my family for always supporting me and raising me to be the person who I am today.”

St. Francis DeSales: Madison Walker’s favorite subjects are science and math. The senior is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Battle of the Books. She serves as a student ambassador, vice president of the Environmental Club and president of the Student Organization of Black Empowerment President. She was selected to the College Board National African American Recognition Program and was named an AP Scholar. She plans to attend University of Cincinnati or Columbia University to study chemical engineering with a minor in Spanish. “I enjoy math and science (especially chemistry) but also enjoy reading as well. I hope to make a difference in the future.”
