Pointview Elementary marks 50th anniversary with week-long celebration

Pointview Elementary is celebrating the school’s 50th anniversary with a week of events and activities starting May 15.

Festivities include a reception for former staff members 4:30-5:30 p.m. on May 15, an art show and leadership night 6-8 p.m. on May 16 and a community-wide open house noon to 3 p.m. on May 18. The open house will include a bounce house, a historical display of yearbooks and articles and other activities. Visitors will be able to tour the building.

Prior to the open house, organizers have planned a school picnic for current Pointview families and staff.

In addition to the week-long festivities, educators are bringing back school events in honor of the 50th anniversary such as the walkathon fundraiser for the school’s PTA and a school-wide
talent show.

Pointview opened its doors in 1974 as one of the district’s open-space concept schools, where classes were grouped in pods with partial walls and no doors. As part of a $5.5 million renovation/addition project, Pointview’s media center was placed at the center of the building, 10 classrooms were added and the main office and cafeteria were expanded. The project was completed in 2016.
