Our Community

Settled in 1806, Westerville enjoys a rich New England heritage and historic legacy that are second to none. Located just miles from the state capital of Columbus, the community is diverse, thriving and was once named one of the top 100 places to live in the United States by CNN Money, earning the top spot in Ohio. While the City of Westerville is home to approximately 35,000 residents, the school district’s boundaries include a total of eight political jurisdictions and approximately 103,500 residents. The school district serves students from Westerville, Minerva Park, Blendon Township, Genoa Township, portions of Columbus and other nearby rural areas. Though the district is situated in northern Franklin County, it also serves parts of southern Delaware County. Since 1997, the district has added one high school, two middle schools, and three new elementary schools to accommodate a growing student population.

Cultural activities abound in Westerville and its surrounding communities. Westerville enjoys a nationally-renown public library that regularly ranks as one of the top five in the nation, and the community is home to Otterbein University, which is considered to be one of the top liberal arts colleges in the Midwest. Otterbein’s art, theatre and music programs are favorites and serve as a source of entertainment for area residents. The Westerville Civic Symphony and the Curtain Players are community-based organizations whose concerts and productions enrich young and old throughout the year. The Westerville Music and Arts Festival, a tradition of 30+ years, is the highlight of the summer, while Fourth Friday Celebrations bring Uptown Westerville alive with activity each April through September.

Westerville enjoys a thriving corporate community and is home to many successful businesses, such as JPMorgan Chase, Worthington Cylinder, Cheryl’s Cookies, Alliance Data, OhioHealth and St. Ann’s Hospital. The community enjoys a vibrant economy and the area’s residential and corporate growth continues to be well managed.

Although the area has experienced dramatic development over the past decade, its natural beauty has been well preserved. From absorbing the character and charm of old cobblestone streets while taking a leisurely stroll in Uptown Westerville, to keeping fit and healthy while exercising in the ultra-modern Community Center, there’s something here for everyone. The community is conveniently located just minutes from two of central Ohio’s premier shopping destinations: Polaris Fashion Place and Easton Town Center. Sports Illustrated recently identified Westerville as one of its “Sportstowns,” with judges noting the quality of the recreational programs and facilities available to residents. Families enjoy access to more than 500 acres of parkland in 39 different locations, as well as the many recreational opportunities offered by Hoover Reservoir, a nine-mile body of water located in the eastern part of the community.
