Our District

Serving a culturally and economically diverse 52-square-mile area in northeastern Franklin and southern Delaware counties, the Westerville City School District (WCSD) educates approximately 14,600 students. WCSD is the 11th-largest district in Ohio and enjoys a history of being recognized by the Ohio Department of Education as a high-performing school district. The district operates 15 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, an Early Learning Center and an Academic Enrichment Center. All three district high schools have been identified by Newsweek magazine as being among the best high schools in America. The district regularly earned the “What Parents Want” in education designation from SchoolMatch, which recognized districts that provide the curriculum and academic rigor parents desire most for their children. The Class of 2023 earned more than $25 million in scholarship offers and, on average, more than 70 percent of Westerville School District graduates pursue a post-secondary education at colleges and universities around the world, or enter the military.

The district offers academic coaches; Advanced Placement courses; a high school International Baccalaureate program whose students achieve a diploma award rate higher than the international average; Able and Talented resource centers; Arts, Math/Science, and World Languages/Culture elementary magnet schools; Peer Mediation training; the EOS alternative program for at-risk students; Service Learning opportunities; active business partnerships; and specialized programs that meet the needs of our nearly 2,000 special needs students, our 3,300 gifted students and our 1,600 English Learners.

Westerville is also recognized for its tradition of excellence in athletics and other extracurricular opportunities. The district promotes sportsmanship, teamwork and camaraderie on its athletic fields, the overarching philosophy being that these character-building tools last a lifetime and contribute to the future success of its students.

Westerville Schools is successful because of the ongoing collaboration between students, staff, administrators, parents and the community. When the City of Westerville was named a Global Top 7 Intelligent Community (one of only three U.S. cities named), one of the reasons cited for this honor was our district's Career Pathways program, which was described as an "innovative program that aims to create new post-secondary education options for students while closing workforce gaps."

Westerville City Schools boasts Career Pathways in Business Logistics, Engineering and Health Careers. The district enjoys a statewide reputation as an exemplary school district and continues its path of steady progress toward becoming the benchmark of educational excellence.
