The department is responsible for providing a safe environment conducive to teaching and learning for students and staff.  In maintaining the safety of our students and staff, it is the responsibility of the department to provide quality services to support Westerville City Schools’ vision.  To support students and parents to report safety concerns, a Safe Schools Helpline is available. This 24-hour-a-day, anonymous helpline is available by calling 1-800-418-6423 ext. 359.

Providing a safe learning environment for students and staff is an important component of the Westerville City Schools mission statement.  As part of a cooperative agreement between the Westerville Schools, Genoa Township and the City of Westerville, a police officer is assigned as a School Resource Officer (SRO) to each high school and middle school. This department regularly collaborates with five police departments, two fire departments and the Franklin and Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, which serve various portions of the Westerville School District. 

In 2022, the District began to utilize Raptor Emergency Management technology to improve its safety response to crisis. The new system allows building administrators to better coordinate their emergency drills and account for students and staff during a drill or an actual emergency. The mobile app allows any staff member to trigger a safety alert, regardless of the employee’s location.
