We receive placement information from the district and the following is an explanation of how the process is completed:
Rising 6th grade students are placed into advanced classes based on scores from multiple data points, including the Terra Nova and InView testing completed in the elementary schools. Students who are identified as gifted in specific subject areas or in superior cognitive ability will be placed in the advanced course that matches their subject area. Students who are not identified as gifted but are high achievers as demonstrated on the Terra Nova and InView will be placed in the advanced courses as well.
With our teaming process and the addition of another class period we will also be able to spend time enriching our high achieving students during the students I/E period throughout the school year no matter which class they are placed into. Students and families will be given a choice on advanced course placement when they select for grades 7 and 8.
