Students and staff at Heritage Middle School celebrated their first annual Husky PRIDE Team Building Day on Friday, August 21.  The pupils attended three different breakout sessions.

Board of Education Unanimously Approves Resolution Opposing “Youngstown School Plan”

Board members unanimously passed a resolution formally opposing what has become known as the “Youngstown School Plan,” calling it a measure that was “secretly concocted” without input from the Youngstown Board of Education, the State Board of Education, the Youngstown Mayor and City Council, and every other elected public official in the city.

High School Leaders are Enthusiastic about the Start of a New Year High School Leaders are Enthusiastic about the Start of a New Year

Westerville Central High School Principal Todd Spinner and the staff ended the first day of school for all 9th grade students with a freshmen pep assembly.  More than 530 freshmen were in attendance along with junior mentors, senior leaders, varsity cheerleaders and the Warhawk marching band.  The goal for the pep rally was to celebrate the largest incoming freshman class in the district and to congratulate them as they completed their first day of high school.

Westerville North’s Leslie Baumann Invited for Recognition by the University of Iowa

Westerville North High School language arts teacher Leslie Baumann has made quite an impact with her students.  That became evident when she received a letter from the University of Iowa inviting her to be honored on October 11 at the Belin-Blank Center Recognition Ceremony in the Iowa Memorial Union.  She was nominated by Leah Gaus, a former pupil.

Early Learning Center is Filled with Preschool Students Eager to Learn

August 17 was not only the first day of preschool for hundreds of young students at the Westerville City School District’s Early Learning Center (ELC); it marked a new beginning for Director Suzanne Kile.

Westerville Central Marching Band Seeking Community Support

The Westerville Central High School Warhawk Marching Band will be participating in Tag Day this Saturday, August 22, from 9:00 a.m. - noon.  Band members will be going out into local neighborhoods sharing the great things the marching band is doing, and looking for public donations and support.  The Warhawk band will have “tags” for a free popcorn at the Westerville Central Classic, and receipts for donations.  Money raised will go towards supporting all music programs at Westerville Central.

All-Day Kindergarten Starts for Some in Westerville All-Day Kindergarten Starts for Some in Westerville

The first day of Kindergarten in the Westerville City School District was Monday, August 17.  New this year, parents had the opportunity to enter their child’s name in a lottery which determined placement in tuition-based All-Day kindergarten.  369 families applied for 260 All-Day kindergarten seats in 10 classrooms.  Four of those are located at Longfellow Elementary School, which has been closed since June 2012.  The remaining six classes are being held in elementary buildings throughout the district that had available space – Alcott, Annehurst, Cherrington, Hawthorne, Robert Frost and Whittier.

Application Deadline for A+ Employee Recognition Program is September 25

Applications are being accepted through Friday, September 25, for the fall 2015 Westerville City Schools A+ Employee Recognition Program, which celebrates extraordinary staff members.  Honorees will be invited to attend a Board of Education meeting where the superintendent and board members will recognize their contributions.

The Westerville High School Class of 1970 reunion is fast approaching.  Reunion planners are trying to reach as many fellow graduates as possible.
