Eleven Walnut Springs Middle School students in Tammy Saltzmann’s advanced seventh grade language arts class are now published authors. They include: Maxwell Ballinger, Adelaide Boyer, Breanna Cunningham, Jackson Dalton, Connor Daniels, Oriana Grumman, Olive Littleman, Fletcher Marsolo, Brooklyn Martinez, Angelina Thomas and Ace (Sophie) Whiting.

The middle school students penned “mini-sagas” (stories of 100 words) about villainous characters for a writing contest sponsored by Young Writers, a Massachusetts-based group that organizes a series of writing contests for elementary, middle, and high school students. Winning compositions are published in books that are distributed to schools.

More than 1,500 mini sagas were submitted for the contest and several Westerville City School students will now have their work published in a book, “Hunted: Adventures From the USA.”

The opportunity was supported by the WCS Gifted Education Department.
