2018-2019 COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTION SHEET

 

Be sure to answer all questions completely.  Applications and supplemental materials are to be returned to Guidance by 1/11/19.  

Students must return a copy of the application and all supporting documents for each scholarship they want to be considered.  These Community Scholarships are intended for students who are planning to pursue post-secondary options for FALL 2019.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Please read carefully.  If materials are missing from your packet it will NOT be considered.  You must submit one completed set of materials for each scholarship that you wish to be considered.  It is your responsibility to make these copies. Your set of materials must be stapled in the upper left corner and submitted in the following order.  DO NOT use plastic covers, binders, folders, envelopes, etc.

INSTRUCTION 1:  Cover Sheet (view template - Required)

  • Must include name, phone number, E-mail address, student ID #, and scholarship applying to and must sign Provision Statement.

 

INSTRUCTION 2:  (Community Scholarship Application - Required)

  • A completed copy of the Community Scholarship Application is required for each scholarship that you wish to be considered.

 

INSTRUCTION 3:  (Resume - Required)

Use any format.  Guidance does NOT keep record of previous awards, honors, etc.  Resume MUST include the following:

  • Scholastic honors received or earned

  • Other honors received or earned (community, church, scouts, athletics, etc.)

  • Clubs and organizations you have belonged to, the number of years you belonged, and positions of leadership, if any (school, community, church, etc.)

  • Part-time work and/or community volunteer experience you have done during the past three years (include employer, position, length of employment, and hours worked or volunteered)

 

INSTRUCTION 4:  (One Letter of Recommendation - Required)

  • Please provide one letter of recommendation from a teacher, administrator or non-relative unless otherwise specified within the criteria listing.  Guidance counselors will NOT provide recommendations for scholarships.

 

INSTRUCTION 5:  (Optional Information)  

  • It is permissible to include a letter of explanation of any special circumstances, such as academic obstacles overcome or financial or family changes which you would like the committee to know.

 

INSTRUCTION 6:  (Vocational Essay - Required)

Note:  All students must complete the following essay in addition to all other required instructions.

  • Please attach a typewritten, double-spaced essay (300-500 words) stating why you have chosen to pursue your proposed occupation or vocation, what your present adult goals and objectives are, what you feel are your personal assets and strengths, and why you feel you are deserving of a scholarship to continue your education.

 

INSTRUCTION 7:  (Required Supplemental Materials)

  • See 2018-2019 Community Scholarship Listing for any additional required materials (if applicable).

 

INSTRUCTION 8:  (Unofficial Transcript - Required)

  • Upon completion of Instructions 1 – 7, students are asked to bring their scholarship packets to Guidance where they will receive the appropriate number of Unofficial Transcripts and Testing Pages to attach to their Application packets.  Students will IMMEDIATELY submit these completed packets to Guidance. NOTE:  To avoid a long last minute wait, make every attempt to complete Instructions 1-7 promptly.


 

2018-2019 COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP LISTING

 

Please read the eligibility requirements for each scholarship.  You may apply for as many community scholarships as you wish provided you meet the qualifications.  

 

Students must provide a copy of all materials for each scholarship for which they want to be considered (i.e., if you are applying for 3 scholarships you must submit 3 sets of all required materials).   Please keep an additional master copy of your application materials for your records!  Completed applications and all supporting documents must be returned to the Guidance Office by January 11, 2019.    


 

District Wide Scholarships:

One and/or more scholarships will be awarded to students in any of Westerville’s three high schools.

 

_____ BLENDON LODGE #339 F.&A.M. SCHOLARSHIP:  Three, $500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors in any     of the three Westerville high schools who possess at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.  This scholarship takes into consideration academic achievement, letters of recommendation, extra-curricular activities, community service and financial need.  The following information is required and should be included in step 5 of the Community Scholarship Application:  1) Gross Family income; 2) Any known or expected college financial assistance.  Winner will be expected to provide an invoice from the college for payment.

 

_____ CURT JACKOWSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One, $1000.00 scholarship awarded to a graduating senior of Westerville City School District.  3.0 GPA required.  Essay outlining academic achievement, community service and financial need is required.  Two (2) letters of recommendation are also required; one (1) from a Westerville City School District educator and one (1) from a Westerville community resident.  For more information and guidelines, please go to: http://www.wcsoh.org/docs//district/jackowski.pdf.

 

_____ JEFFREY COPELAND ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD FOR ENGINEERING STUDIES OF THE COLUMBUS FOUNDATION:  Candidates must be graduating seniors of a Westerville City Schools High School; plan to pursue a degree in engineering; have a minimum 3.0 grade point average by the end of the first semester of senior year; and plan to attend a four-year college or university.  Preference may be given to those attending a “Big 10 college or university. For this scholarship, a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA is required. The SAR is the result of completing the FAFSA forms and must be included in the initial application. _____ DAVID FINKELSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  David S. Finkelstein Memorial Scholarship:  This 4 year scholarship of $16,000-$20,000 is divided among 4 award recipients from WNHS, WCHS, and WSHS.  Each applicant must write a brief explanation of how the death of a family member or friend affected his/her choice of colleges, degree pursuits, and/or life goals. 4 winners receive $500 each and a 30 minute interview.  An additional $2,000-$3,000 will be divided among the winners after the interviews. In addition, after completing years 1, 2, and 3 of college, the 4 recipients will interview for a share of an additional $4,000-$5,000 each year.

 

Each applicant must be accepted to an accredited 4 year college or university.  There is a maximum of 5 applicants per Westerville high school.

 

_____ GENOA TOWNSHIP BUSINESS ASSOCIATION:  Two, $1000 one-time Scholarships are available.  A graduating senior who resides in Genoa Township and is continuing his/her education at an accredited post-secondary institution is eligible to apply. A supplemental, one page, double spaced 12.5 font essay describing how post-secondary opportunities and receiving this business association scholarship will help you give back to Genoa Township is required.  NOTE:  Letter of Recommendation must be from a non-relative.    

 

_____ THE LORI SHERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  This $250 Scholarship was created in memory of Lori Sherman, better known to McVay students as, “Our Lunch Lady”.  Lori’s positive and generous nature allowed her to

use the ordinary moments of the school day to make extraordinary differences to all at McVay.  This $250 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Westerville City Schools who attended McVay Elementary for a minimum of 3 years.  This academically deserving student must have a military commitment or have been accepted to an accredited college, university or vocational school.


 

_____ THE MIKE CHUDIK MEMORIAL BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP:  Three, $1000 scholarships will be awarded: 1) Student must be pursuing a business or entrepreneurship major at a 2-year or 4-year institution; 2) Applicant must complete brief questionnaire here:  http://networkingprofessionalsofcolumbus.com/npc-business-scholarship/.

 

_____ MEDALLION SCHOLARSHIP: 1.) Scholarship(s) totaling up to $2,000.00 shall be available to any senior(s) who resides within the 43081 and 43082 zip code who will graduate in the Spring, 2019 and, within 12 months of graduation, will pursue further education at i) a two-year or four-year college or university, ii) a vocational or technical college, iii) a trade school, or iv) pursue a career requiring further education which the scholarship committee deems appropriate for the awarding of this/these scholarship(s). Sons and daughters of Medallion members are ineligible for the award.

2.) Scholarship committee will award the scholarship(s) to the most qualified applicant(s). Scholarship committee reserves the right to not award a scholarship if it determines, in its sole discretion that no applicant qualifies for the scholarship.

3.) For this scholarship, a copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the FAFSA is required. The SAR is the result of completing the FAFSA forms and must be included in the initial application.

4.) Any monies awarded by this scholarship will be paid directly to the college, university or institution of advanced learning. The scholarship recipient shall submit an invoice from the college, university or institution of advanced learning and the Scholarship committee shall pay the invoice up to the amount of the scholarship.

5.) Any information provided to the scholarship committee, including information to determine financial need, shall be reviewed and maintained exclusively by the scholarship committee. Any such information shall remain confidential and shall not be disseminated to any third parties unless the truthfulness of the application is at issue. All financial information shall be purged by the scholarship committee approximately one year from the date of the award of the scholarship. The scholarship committee reserves the right to maintain statistical analyses from the financial information but shall not maintain the names of any applicant or any other person providing financial information for this application and shall protect and honor the privacy of those individuals.

6.) On a separate page, please write a 500 word essay on the following topic: (If you could make a positive contribution (other than financial) to a Central Ohio (greater Westerville area) once you graduate, what would that contribution be and how would it improve Central Ohio?

7.) On another separate page, please list any academic honors which you have received or extracurricular activities (school or community) in which you have participated. List any offices held, years of membership, contributions made, letters earned, etc.

_____ OHIO PTA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  Three, $500 scholarships awarded in Ohio District #10:  One Academic Scholarship available to students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree; one Technical Scholarship available to students pursuing a 2 or 3 year approved technical, vocational or Associate’s Degree; and one Special Education Scholarship (identified with a current IEP).  Ohio PTA Applications for each of these Scholarships can be found at http://www.ohiopta.org/PROGRAMS.aspx.

 

NOTE:  Applications for these three scholarships are to be mailed directly to Ohio PTA with a deadline date announced in January 2019 (see Ohio PTA website).   Ohio PTA; 40 Northwoods Blvd.; Suite A; Columbus, OH 43235. _____ WESTERVILLE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION / FAITH PRUDEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  This $2000 Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who will be attending a traditional or non-traditional college studying cosmetology, the arts, culinary studies or fire services.  For more information about Faith and the love she shared for the arts, please visit http://www.faithprudenfoundation.org/.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION – OTTERBEIN:  This is a $1500 award for a student who will be attending Otterbein University in the upcoming year.  The focus is on students who have demonstrated leadership and/or outstanding participation in volunteer, charitable and community service organizations.  All applicants must supply THREE copies of the application and supporting materials.  Finalists must attend an interview with Westerville Scholarship Foundation Review and Selection team and be willing to volunteer at a Foundation Fundraiser.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION – TECHNICAL/TRADE SCHOOL: is a $1500 award for a student who will be attending a technical or trade school. The focus is on students who have demonstrated leadership and/or outstanding participation in volunteer, charitable and community service organizations. All applicants must supply THREE copies of the application and supporting materials.  Finalists must attend an interview with the Westerville Scholarship Foundation Review and Selection team and be willing to volunteer at a Foundation Fundraiser.

 

_____ THE WESTERVILLE FIRE FIGHTERS’ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:  A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual pursuing a career in Fire/Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria: academic achievement, community and school involvement, financial need, relevance of field of study, and an explanation of how applicant plans to make a difference with his/her career plans. _____ WESTERVILLE ROTARY CLUB OTTERBEIN SCHOLARSHIP:  This is a cumulative $8000.00 scholarship offered to a qualified student from Westerville North, South, Central or St Francis DeSales who will be attending Otterbein in the Fall of 2019 as a full time student.  This is paid out at $2000.00 per school year. Only one scholarship of this nature will be awarded. Qualifications for this scholarship are: 1. Must be a full time student senior that attends Westerville South, Westerville Central, Westerville North or St Francis DeSales graduating during the year of the award 2. Must be accepted to Otterbein University, or have applied to Otterbein University 3. Children or grandchildren of Westerville Rotarians are not eligible for this award 4. Consideration is focused on a student that exemplifies   “Service Above Self” 5. Any letters of recommendation should highlight how the student has been an example of "Service Above Self"

 

The Rotary Scholarship Committee with review all applications that are submitted by the deadline of MARCH 30, 2019 and at their discretion invite applicants for a personal interview.  Committee decisions are final and not subject to appeal. All candidates that are invited to interview will be notified via email whether they are selected or not selected as the scholarship winner. DO NOT FOLLOW THE 2018-2019 COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTION SHEET.  Applicants must ONLY complete The Rotary “Service Above Self” Student Scholarship Application Form and follow those instructions.  The Rotary “Service Above Self” Student Scholarship Application can be found at http://www.wcsoh.org/docs/district/Scholarships/Rotary-Service%20Above%20Self.pdf. Please do not provide more forms/paperwork/letters than the scholarship form is requiring.

Must be accepted or applied to a college or university located in the State of Ohio 3. Children or grandchildren of Westerville Rotarians are not eligible for this award 4. Consideration is focused on a student that exemplifies   “Service Above Self” 5. Any letters of recommendation should highlight how the student has been an example of "Service Above Self"

Westerville Central High School Scholarships:

One and/or more scholarships will be awarded to students at Westerville Central High School.

 

_____ CHILDREN SUPPORTING CHILDREN:  One (1) $250 scholarship. Student must be attending Westerville Central or Westerville North currently.  Student must have done a minimum of one community service project and we are asking for a short paragraph describing their experience.  We want to give this scholarship to a student who is passionate about helping others in need and has had experience with community service.  

 

_____    DEREK J. JAHN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP:    One (1), $2500 scholarship will be awarded:  1) 3.5 or higher required GPA; 2) Student must be pursuing a Biology or Chemistry major at an accredited 4-year institution; 3)  Applicant must complete the Community Scholarship Application and 4) Submit a one-page essay outlining why he/she is majoring in Biology or Chemistry, how he/she plans to use the degree and why he/she believes he/she is the best recipient of the scholarship.  For more information and guidelines, please access the following link: www.wcsoh.org/docs/district/Scholarships/2017%20Derek%20J.%20Jahn%20Guidelines.pdf.


 

_____    WESTERVILLE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW):  $750 award. Applicant must be female. Applicants will be evaluated on the following standards:  Academic standing (GPA and class rank), SAT and/or ACT results (SAT 600 in major area, 500 in other areas; ACT minimum – 24), scope of activities, community service/leadership, work performed, personal essay, articulation of goals and financial need.  Extra consideration will be given to applicants who have overcome a major obstacle, or who lack a network of support for future schooling. Please complete “Instruction 5” in order to cover financial need, goals and information about your obstacle and support.

 

_____    WESTERVILLE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (W.E.A.):  A scholarship award will be offered for a student planning a career in the education profession.  The exact dollar amount is yet to be determined.

 

_____    WESTERVILLE EDUCATION FOUNDATION:  One, $1000 award guaranteed to a Central student.  A 3.0 grade point average is required.

 

_____    WESTERVILLE EDUCATION SUPPORT STAFF ASSOCIATION (W.E.S.S.A.):  One, $300 award is available. Applicant must have a 3.0 GPA, some community service and show financial need.  Applicants should attach a short essay on how he/she plans to use the scholarship dollars.

 

_____    WESTERVILLE KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP:  One, $1200 scholarship is available.  Finalists will be required to attend an interview with Kiwanis members.  Applicants may be required to bring a copy of their FAFSA form to the interview.

 

_____    WESTERVILLE LIONS CLUB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS:  Two, $1000 scholarships are available. Finalists must attend an interview with Lions Club members.  

 

_____ WESTERVILLE SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION:  This is a $1500 award. The focus is on a student who has demonstrated leadership and/or outstanding participation in volunteer, charitable and community service organizations. All applicants must supply THREE copies of the application and supporting materials.  Finalists must attend an interview with the Westerville Scholarship Foundation Review and Selection team and be willing to volunteer at a Foundation Fundraiser.


 

Westerville Parent Organization Scholarships:

 

_____    WESTERVILLE PARENT COUNCIL “MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN WESTERVILLE” SCHOLARSHIP:  One, $500 Scholarship is available to a student graduating from a Westerville City Schools high school where one is a difference maker through leadership, service, participation and/or meaningful job within the Westerville community.  Student must plan to pursue a post-secondary education at a college, university, or a vocational or technical school including, but not limited to, manual trades, health care and computer technology. Factors for consideration will include, but are not limited to:  academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and leadership, community and volunteer service, financial need, as well as any other personal and family considerations.

   

_____    WESTERVILLE PARENT COUNCIL PTA:  A minimum of six, $500 scholarships awarded: two or more per high school depending on available funds.  All students graduating from a Westerville City Schools high school are eligible and encouraged to apply.  Factors for consideration will include, but are not limited to:  academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and leadership, community and volunteer service, financial need, as well as any other personal and family considerations.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE PARENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS:  One, $500 Scholarship is available to a graduating student in Westerville City Schools.  All students who are enrolled in the Special Education Program are encouraged to apply.  Applicants for this Scholarship must have a current IEP OR 504 on file.  Students must be pursuing a post-secondary education.  This scholarship is based on academic achievement, community service/volunteerism, extra-curricular activities/leadership, letter of recommendation and financial needs, as well as any other personal and family considerations.  The WPC Scholarship for Exceptional Students Scholarship Application MUST BE COMPLETED in lieu of the Community Scholarship Application and is available at:  http://www.wcsoh.org/docs/district/Scholarships/2017%20Parent%20Council%20Exceptional%20Student%20Application.pdf.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE PARENT COUNCIL TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP:  One, $500 scholarship is available to a graduating student in Westerville City Schools.  Students must plan to attend a post-secondary vocational or technical school including but not limited to manual trades, health care and computer technology.  Factors for consideration will include, but not limited to: academic achievement, extra-curriculum activities and leadership, community and volunteer service, financial need, as well as other personal and family considerations.

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOLARSHIPS:  

To be considered for these awards, applicants must have attended the school for which they want to be considered.

 

_____ ALCOTT PTA:  Alcott Elementary is offering two (2) $500 Scholarships to two students at any Westerville City Schools high school who attended Alcott Elementary for at least three years.  The following criteria must be met to be eligible:  They must have attended Alcott Elementary for at least three years; they will be going to college; they must complete the Community Scholarship Application Form.

 

_____ ANNEHURST PTA (through Ohio PTA):  One, $500 scholarship. Student must have attended Annehurst Elementary School for a minimum of one (1) academic year.  Applicants for the Annehurst PTA scholarship should be sent to Ohio PTA, 40 Northwoods Blvd., Ste. A, Columbus, OH 43235.

 

_____ CHERRINGTON PTA:  One, $500 scholarship.  Student must have attended Cherrington Elementary for at least two complete school years.  Must have a current GPA of 2.7 or better. Please address your financial need in a 50 to 100-word supplement to your essay.

 

_____    EMERSON PTA:  Two, $500 Scholarships awarded.  Student must have attended Emerson World Languages and Cultures Elementary Magnet School for at least two (2) full academic years and be accepted at a 2 or 4-year accredited college, university, technical or military academy.

 

Applicants must also include a short paragraph describing how Emerson Elementary School, whether it was a teacher, administrator, the curriculum or fellow students, influenced their education, view of the world or plans for their future.  This short paragraph may be included separately or as part of the student’s vocational essay. If Emerson is included in your vocational essay, please note it instead of rewriting.

 

_____ FOUSE ELEMENTARY:  Two, $500 scholarships are available.  Student must have attended Fouse for at least 3 years.  Please include an additional essay stating how Fouse Elementary played a part or influenced who you are today.

 

_____ HANBY PTA – HANBY MAGNET SCHOOL:  One, $500 Scholarship is available.  Student must have attended Hanby Arts Magnet or A&T program for a minimum of two full academic years.  Student must be accepted in an accredited post-secondary program or institution by the time of scholarship disbursement.  Essay requested about your time at Hanby Arts Magnet or A&T Program and how it influenced your life and career choice. Candidate should demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, community service/volunteerism and leadership potential.

 

_____ HANBY PTA – CENTRAL COLLEGE MAGNET SCOOL:  One, $500 Scholarship is available.  Student must have attended Central College Magnet School for a minimum of two full academic years.  Student must be accepted in an accredited post-secondary program or institution by the time of scholarship disbursement.  Essay is requested about your time at Central College Magnet Program and how it has impacted your life and career choice. Candidate should demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, community service/volunteerism and leadership potential.  Special consideration is given to those who plan to study math, science and/or education.

 

_____ HANBY PTA – LONGFELLOW MAGNET SCHOOL:  One, $500 Scholarship is available.  Student must have attended Longfellow Magnet School   for a minimum of two full academic years.  Student must be accepted in an accredited post-secondary program or institution by the time of scholarship disbursement.  Essay is requested about your time at Longfellow and how it has impacted your life and career choice. Candidate should demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, community service/volunteerism and leadership potential.  

 

_____ HAWTHORNE PTO:  One, $500 scholarship.  Student must have attended Hawthorne for three complete academic years.   Must also fill out this brief form: http://www.hawthorneschool.org/wcsd-scholarship-for-hawthorne-grad/.

 

_____ HUBER RIDGE PTA:  One, $500 Scholarship is available.  Student must have attended Huber Ridge Elementary for at least three years.  Student must also submit a list of other scholarships for which they are applying and they must submit a 300-500 word typed essay explaining how Huber Ridge helped mold their future academic endeavor of choice.

 

_____ MARK TWAIN PTA:  Two, $500 Scholarships are available.  Student must have attended Mark Twain for a minimum of one year.  An emphasis is placed on academic achievement and community service.  Please include a description of your experience at Mark Twain and any community service projects you have been involved with during your high school years.

 

_____ MCVAY PTA:  Two, $500 scholarships are available.  Student must be graduating from Westerville City Schools High School and have attended McVay Elementary for a minimum of 3 years.  Student must be accepted at an accredited college, university or vocational school or have made a military service commitment.

 

_____ ROBERT FROST PTA:  Two, $750 scholarships are offered to a graduating senior who resides in the Westerville City School District.  Must have been accepted at a university or 2-year post high school and must have attended Robert Frost Elementary for a minimum of 2 complete academic years in grades 1-5.  


 

_____ WHITTIER PTA:  One, $500 Scholarship is available.  Student must have attended Whittier Elementary at least two (2) academic years including the 5th grade year.  In addition, the student is required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers or leaders in the community.

 

_____ WILDER PTA: Two, $750 Scholarships are available.  Student must have attended Wilder Elementary for at least 4 school years.  Students are encouraged to submit a short essay on their most memorable experience at Wilder.

 

MIDDLE SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

_____ BLENDON PTO:  Four (4), $500 scholarships will be awarded.  Student must have attended Blendon Middle School for at least one academic year.  Student must have at least a 3.0 cum GPA. Applicants must also include a short paragraph describing how Blendon Middle School, whether it was a teacher, administrator, fellow students, club, sport, or class, influenced their education, view of the world or plans for their future.

 

_____ GENOA PTSA: Three (3), $500 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors district wide.  These scholarships may be based on any of the following criteria: academic achievement, community service/volunteerism, leadership roles and personal perseverance.  Applicants with a current IEP or 504 plan are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have attended Genoa Middle School for at least one full academic year. In addition to examples of criteria listed above, please also include in your essay a brief paragraph describing your favorite memory at Genoa Middle School.  

                       

_____ HERITAGE PTSA:  Three, $500 Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from either Westerville North, South or Central High Schools.  Applicants must have attended Heritage MS for a minimum of one academic year and plan to attend 4 or 2 year college, training, career or technical school, a certified program, or military service. The three scholarships are outlined below.

 

One scholarship will be awarded for a Top All Around student.  An all-around student is in excellent academic standing and demonstrates experience in employment, volunteerism, clubs, or other extracurricular activities.  The student must submit an additional one page essay on an impactful Heritage Middle School teacher.

 

One scholarship will be awarded for a Perseverance distinction.  The student will submit a one page essay on how he/she persevered through a difficult time in school, home, or in any relevant situation.

 

One scholarship will be awarded for a student who has received services from the Special Education Program.  Students with a current IEP or 504 on file are encouraged to apply.  The student must submit an additional one page essay explaining how the IEP or 504 has impacted his/her life.

 

_____ WALNUT SPRINGS PTSA:  Two, $250 scholarships are available.  Student must have attended Walnut Springs Middle School for at least one complete academic year.

 

HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS:

 

_____ WESTERVILLE CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL WARHAWK ACADEMIC BOOSTERS:  These Scholarships, dependent on available funds, are offered to all 2019 graduating seniors at Westerville Central High School who are pursuing a two-year or four-year degree at any accredited college or university, a certified career or technical program or certified training.  Program enrollment must be immediately following your high school graduation unless you join the armed services thus delaying your entry into post-secondary education. Furthermore, if there should be any variance in the student’s good standing or if the necessity of the scholarship monies has changed, prior to high school graduation, the Academic Boosters Board has the right to alter their decision. Students will submit one application to be considered for all Academic Boosters scholarships described below.

 

Westerville Central Academic Boosters will be awarding at least two (2) $1,000 Scholarships for Top Academic Warhawk Students and at least two (2) $1,000 Scholarships for Top All-Around Warhawk Students.  

 

Our criteria will include:  all of the following:  

      • Academic performance (GPA, highest reported SAT or ACT scores)

      • Submitted typed vocational essay and a resume outlining your high school activities

      • Work experience if applicable, detailed community service hours served only during your high school years

      • Leadership roles and accomplishments, as well as honors and/or recognitions received only during your high school career.  

      • Also required is a typed two paragraph personal narrative describing your favorite memory of Westerville Central High School

 

Dependent on funds available, six (6) or more additional awards of $500 each will also be offered to our students, based on the discretion of the Scholarship committee.  These Silver and Black Warhawk Awards may be based on any of the aforementioned criteria in addition to the following:

 

  • Exemplary community service hours served during your high school years

  • Expressed special life changes or personal circumstances (e.g. overcoming individual hurdles or disabilities)

  • The pursuit of a career in a technical program or certified training, such as but not limited to, electronics, culinary arts, HVAC, automotive technology, etc.

 

Note:  Students with an IEP/504 and/or ESL students may use the customized application packet available by request in the Westerville Central High School guidance office. Please note if all of the criteria is not submitted your application will be considered incomplete and will not be considered.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE CENTRAL ATHLETIC BOOSTERS:  The Westerville Central Athletic Booster Club (WCBAC) is proud to offer four (4) $1000 scholarships (2 males, 2 females) to graduating Westerville Central High School senior athletes who plan to attend an accredited college or university in the fall of 2017.  The scholarships are intended to recognize leadership, sportsmanship, athletic and scholastic achievement.

 

LEAP Scholarship – Leadership, Enthusiasm, Academics and Perseverance

A $1000 Scholarship will be awarded to one male WCHS student athlete and one female WCHS student athlete. Eligibility requirements include an un-weighted GPA of 3.3 or greater and the recipients must have participated in at least one sport at Westerville Central High School.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME

A $1000 Scholarship will be awarded to one male WCHS student athlete and one female WCHS student athlete.  Eligibility requirements include an un-weighted GPA between 2.5 and 3.2 and the recipients must have participated in at least one sport at Westerville Central High School.

_____ WESTERVILLE CENTRAL 1ST GENERATION ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP:  One, $1000 scholarship will go to a graduating senior who has earned at least one (1) varsity letter in a school or club sport at Westerville Central High School. There is no GPA requirement and no immediate family member (parents/guardians/siblings) can have a four-year college degree.  The student must show proof of being accepted into a two or four-year college once they have been selected for this scholarship.

 

_____ WESTERVILLE CENTRAL MUSIC BOOSTERS: WESTERVILLE CENTRAL MUSIC BOOSTERS: Two $500 Scholarships will be awarded.  Scholarship to any individual will not exceed $500. The scholarship program is open to Westerville Central senior students.  Students will enroll in a post-secondary music education program from an accredited school of high education or participate in music related activities at an accredited school of higher education (i.e. marching band, choir, etc.).  The student must have a GPA of 3.0 overall with a 3.5 GPA in all music courses. Candidates are to complete the Westerville Central Music Booster Scholarship Application for consideration.
