As part of Black History Month, Walnut Springs Middle School hosted the first of two virtual school-wide presentations with Dr. Hasan Jeffries, an associate professor at Ohio State University’s Department of History, on Feb. 18.
Students watched Jeffries’ TED talk on confronting hard history in their social studies classes and wrote questions that were shared with him ahead of his talk to Cohort B students this week. Westerville Virtual Academy students also watched the presentation remotely. (Cohort A students will hear from him on Feb. 24.)
Jeffries led a Westerville Education Day training for educators on discussing race and racism in the classroom in August. He is leading a Q & A session for students and parents at a Parent Prep workshop on March 4.
