Building Message

Dru Tomlin

Good day, Heritage MS Students and Families,

I hope everyone has been enjoying a wonderful weekend and staying cool now that the Summer weather has arrived! Well, here we are. Believe it or not, this is your final #HuskyStrong Word of the Week message for the 2021-2022 school year--and what a year it’s been! As we have all continued to feel the effects of COVID-19, we have also continued to learn, grow, and achieve #HuskyStronger together. Thanks for everything you’ve done on the homefront to make this school year such a success. Before we get to information for the final events of the school year, I want to give a special shout out of gratitude to our HMS teachers and staff for everything they’ve done to help our Huskies thrive this year.

Here is some critical information for every Husky for May 23-25:

  1. Due to the shortened week and scheduled special activities this week, there is no #HuskyStrong Word of the Week video. Thus, we’re ending on last week’s word, which was Begin. What a fitting way to end the school year with an emphasis on beginning a great summer!

  2. Huskies, are you interested in leading your House next year and helping to improve the school? If so, fill out this Google Form by Friday, May 27 to become a House Captain! Starting next year, each House will have a House Captain for each grade level, and those students will help lead their Houses–by getting the spirit up, getting information out, and meeting with school administrators every 9 weeks to give them feedback on the school (ex. Improvements needed, special activities, etc.). Anyone in 6th and 7th grade can apply!

  3. End-of-the-Year Celebrations This Week:

    1. Monday, May 23 during the school day: #HuskyStrong House Party for the Adventurers House, which had the most points for Quarter 4! Congratulations to the Adventurers and to every Husky for supporting their House throughout the school year.

    2. Monday, May 23 at 6:30pm: 6th & 7th grade Awards Ceremony in the HMS gym. Students should have received their invitation last week to attend this event.

    3. Tuesday, May 24 during the school day: TOP DOGS (Students with 4.0 GPA and no behavior infractions) will receive a special ice cream treat at lunch time for a job well done!

    4. Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30pm: 8th grade Evening of Excellence Awards Ceremony in the HMS gym. Students should have received their invitation last week to attend this event.

    5. 6th graders will be celebrating the year with fun activities in each of their classes on Monday-Wednesday.

    6. 7th and 8th graders will be celebrating with fun activities and a spirited walk to the park on Tuesday.

    7. For our 8th graders’ final walk out of HMS on Wednesday, that is a “student and teacher/staff only” event. Any additional cars, traffic, etc. will make dismissal from school problematic. Thanks for understanding!

  4. For the last day of school on Wednesday (5/25), there are no backpacks allowed. Students can carry a string-back bag if they need to. We will provide a bag if your student doesn’t have one.

  5. REMINDER! Get hooked on reading over the Summer with the Heritage MS High 5 for 25 Reading Program! You’ll get rewarded for the books you read–and you’ll help keep your mind #HuskyStrong all Summer long! In August, a Google Form will be shared with every Husky, so they can keep track of their reading progress.

  6. Please be sure to check the Principal’s Message throughout the Summer for updates about the start of the school year.  For instance, the first day of school (Thursday, August 11) is for 6th graders, and then every Husky (6th, 7th, and 8th) has school on Friday, August 12!

  7. Stay informed and involved in Husky “Next Level” Athletics ! We have camps, clubs, and more! Need information about the Fall Sports Season? Check out our HMS Athletics Page today!

  8. REMINDER! Support the Home of the Huskies with the Heritage MS PTSA! Click to get informed and involved!

As always, if you need anything or have any questions, concerns, information, ideas, etc. please reach out at 614-797-6600 or via email at Let’s stay #HuskyStrong together and keep our eyes on the prize and seize every day with kindness, excellence, safety and Husky PRIDE!

#HuskyStrong All Year Long,

Dr. Tomlin and your Heritage MS Family

Happy Summer
