Dr. Herak is a three time graduate of The Ohio State University: BSE (Science Education), MS (Env Sci), PhD (STEM Education). As an undergrad he was a member of
The Ohio State University Marching Band for 5-years and can still be found playing with the
TBDBITL Alumni Band.
While at university, Dr. Herak had several jobs (including as a lab assistant in both Science Education and Mechanical Engineering). He also worked for 4-summers on the show staff for the
Columbus Zoo, training various species of birds and other animals.
Dr. Herak has been teaching in Westerville since 1997. He started at WSHS, taught one year at Heritage, and then took a leave of absence to teach at
Aldenham School near London (UK) and worked as GTA as part of his residence at Ohio State. He has been at WNHS since 2006 where he now advises the recycle club.
Dr. Herak has presented at education conferences at the state, national and international level including the Science Education Council of Ohio, National Science Teachers Association and International Consortium of Research in Science and Math Education. He was helped write grants totaling over $15,000 for Westerville North High School.
Dr. Herak is married to Mrs. Herak, who teaches elementary and middle school strings (Heritage). Both enjoy performing outside of school in various ensembles including the
Brass Band of Columbus,
Dublin Silver Band and Dublin Cornet Band
