Six former Westerville South High School students, all majoring in engineering at The Ohio State University, spent the day at South on Wednesday, November 11.  South science students were split into small groups where they went from station to station to observe applications of the various engineering majors offered at OSU.

Mandatory College Credit Plus Meeting Slated for February 25

On Thursday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m., an informational meeting will be held in the auditorium at Westerville South High School (303 South Otterbein Avenue) to discuss the College Credit Plus (CCP) program.  CCP allows eligible Ohio students in grades 7 through 12 to earn college and high school credit through the successful completion of college courses.  To participate in CCP for the 2016-2017 school year, which will include the 2016 Summer Term, students and families must attend this mandatory informational meeting.

Rotary Club of Westerville Names February Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Westerville, which sponsors a Student of the Month program, recognized recipients at a luncheon at Villa Milano held on Thursday, February 4.  February students are:  Skylar Saba, Westerville Central High School; Emily Akkari, Westerville North High School; Brynner Jung, Westerville South High School, and Megan Javitch, St. Francis DeSales High School.

Application Deadline for A+ Employee Recognition Program is March 18

Applications are being accepted through Friday, March 18, for the fall 2016 Westerville City Schools A+ Employee Recognition Program, which celebrates extraordinary staff members.  Honorees will be invited to attend a Board of Education meeting where the superintendent and board members will recognize their contributions.

Westerville Educators Present at Ohio ACT State Organization Conference

Three Westerville City School (WCS) District employees – Charlie Runyan, Anne Baldwin, and Cynthia DeVese – recently presented at the Ohio ACT State Organization Conference.  The Creating Opportunities for Changing Times conference seeks to inform, educate and inspire those who spend time and energy working with individuals to prepare them for college and career success.  

Westerville Education Foundation Names Teachers of the Month for January

The Westerville Education Foundation has named three educators Teacher of the Month for January – Derek Geist, Fouse Elementary: Ashlee Wagner, McVay Elementary; and Kate Mantenieks, Emerson Elementary.

High School Conferences Planned

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on February 17 and 18 at Westerville Central High School from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.; at Westerville North High School from 5:00 - 8:30 p.m.; and at Westerville South High School from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Classes will not be held in the high schools on Friday, February 19.  School will be in session at usual times, however, in all elementary and middle school buildings.

Operation: Street Smart Adult Drug Education Program Slated for February 16

Westerville Parent Council is sponsoring an adults-only, community awareness event called Operation: Street Smart on Tuesday evening February 16, from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the Westerville South High School Media Center. The goal of the program, which will be presented by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, is to provide current and up-to-date narcotics information to individuals who deal with youth on a daily basis.
