OSU Kidney Physiologist Conducts Dissection Lab at Westerville Central
Dr. Bruce Biagi, a kidney physiologist from The Ohio State University, visited Pam Hayes’ science classroom at Westerville Central High School on January 27 to deliver a lecture on kidney anatomy and water balance. Working in teams, they dissected, labeled and mapped the structures of bovine kidneys, and investigated the location of nephrons.  Click headline to read more!

S.T.E.M. Biomedical Science Program Schedules Two Informational Meetings
An informational meeting for the 2010-2011 school year will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, in the Westerville Central High School Media Center. Incoming juniors and seniors at Westerville Central, North, and South high schools, who hold a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, are invited to attend, along with their parents. In addition, the S.T.E.M. Biomedical Sciences Program is organizing a trip to China. A program about this trip will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Westerville Central Media Center on Thursday, February 11. Current and prospective S.T.E.M. students and their parents are invited to attend.

Westerville City Schools Close for Presidents’ Day

Market Day has issued a notice to all customers regarding a metal object that was allegedly found inside one box of #7138 Chicken Pot Pie, Family Size, 9 inch, 2.5 lbs. manufactured by Park 100 Foods and sold from 10/21/09 to 12/30/09. These products were distributed by Market Day through Internet or catalog sales in Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Gallery 202, located at 38 N. State St., is exhibiting work by Westerville student artists as part of the National PTA’s Reflections Program. Rotary Club Names January Students of the Month

Bodies Students Learn Hands-On Medical Skills
On Friday, January 15, sixteen students from Metro Early College High School and Westerville City Schools will learn several medical techniques from Dr. Jennifer Beard and staff at the Center for Medical Education & Innovation at Riverside Hospital. Using patient simulators, Bodies students will apply their classroom work and learn catheter procedures, suturing, airway and intubation techniques and participate in a mock “code blue.”

Board Adopts 2011-2012 Calendar for Westerville City Schools
At its Regular Meeting on October 12, 2009, the Westerville City School district adopted a calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. Classes will begin on August 17, 2011, and end on May 24, 2012.  The 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 calendars are available for download from the district’s website at www.wcsoh.org, click Our Calendar.
