Westerville South Wildcat Dash is April 11

The Westerville South Instrumental Music Boosters are hosting their second annual Wildcat Dash 5k Run/1 mile fun walk on Saturday, April 11, at McNamara Park in Genoa Township on Big Walnut Road.  The race begins at 9:00 a.m. with registration and check-in starting at 7:30 a.m.  Cost is $25 for those who register by today, and $30 after March 27.  The first 100 registrants will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag.

Westerville City Schools invites incoming sixth grade students and their parents to attend Moving Up Night, an evening of orientation focused on the transition from elementary to middle school.

Families Celebrate All Arts Night at Huber Ridge Elementary School

Families packed Huber Ridge Elementary School on Thursday evening, March 19, for All Arts Night, a free, fun-filled event celebrating music and the arts.  A number of activities were offered.  Students enjoyed making various musical instruments like guitars, kazoos and drums, using recycled items.  They also had the opportunity to create comic strips and sing at into an open mic at the “Huber Café.”

Westerville Central Key Club Members Fare Well at District Leadership Conference

The Westerville Central High School Key Club sent three of its members to the annual District Leadership Conference in Beachwood, Ohio recently – co-presidents Sakhi Patel and Prestin Minter, and Luis Sandoval.  The group participated in fellowship activities including a spirit rally and dances, a banquet, and forums to learn about leadership, fund-raising, and service ideas.

Westerville North High School Hosts National History Day Event

On Tuesday, March 24, social studies teacher Damon Mollenkopf and 115 students from his five classes invited parents, teachers, and school and district administrators to the Westerville North High School Media Center as they hosted their first annual National History Day exhibition.

Westerville North’s Rex Lundstrom Awarded Rotary’s Youth Exchange Scholarship

Rex Lundstrom, a senior at Westerville North High School, has been selected to receive Rotary District 6690’s Youth Exchange Scholarship.  As a result, he will depart in August for a year’s study in Japan.

Genoa Dance Raises Money for Trip to Zoombezi Bay

On Friday March 13, an 8th grade only dance was held at Genoa Middle School to raise money for the entire class to attend Zoombezi Bay on the last day of school.  The week leading up to the dance, students were able to buy raffle tickets to pie a staff member in the face.

Seven Westerville Students Advance in Letters about Literature Contest

Seven Westerville City Schools students are advancing to states in the Library of Congress’ annual Letters about Literature contest.  Out of the nearly 2,000 entries from across Ohio, 164 letters were chosen to move on to the next round of competition.

Westerville North’s Mock Trial Team is Honored by Board of Education

Westerville North High Schools’ Team Darrow, which recently won the Ohio Mock Trial State Championship by defeating Ashland High School at the Ohio Statehouse, was recognized by the Westerville City Schools Board of Education at a meeting held Monday evening, March 23.  Team advisor Zach Wilkerson, and colleagues Ken Donchatz, Scott Longo and Dr. Tom Peet, were commended for guiding the 10 students to victory.  They will compete at the national level from May 14-16 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Bette Marschall Grant Applications Accepted Through April 30

Applications for monetary grants from The Bette Marschall Education Fund of The Columbus Foundation are being accepted for worthy 2015-2016 school-year projects not otherwise supported within the school budget.  The grants are available to teachers, students, administrators, and non-teaching staff within the Westerville City School District. The submission deadline is April 30, 2015.
