District Announces Adjustment to First Day of School for Students in 2015-16

Westerville City School District officials today announced that the first day of class for students in grades 1-12 has been changed for next school year from Wednesday, August 12, 2015, to Thursday, August 13, 2015.  Kindergarten and preschool students will still have a gentle start to the school year with their first day of class scheduled for August 17, 2015.

Board Authorizes Superintendent to Enact Staffing Plan, Enhance Learning Opportunities

During the Board of Education meeting on May 18, 2015, Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg delivered a report to Board members entitled, “Strategic Planning and Opportunities for Students: A Two-Year Staffing Plan.”  Kellogg noted in his report that the district was still operating under fiscal parameters established several years ago by previous Board members as they enacted budget reductions following a failed ballot appearance.

Westerville North Music Boosters to Raffle Indian Chief Motorcycle

The Westerville North Music Boosters are raffling off a 2015 Indian Chief Classic motorcycle, with a value of $19,799, to raise funds for Westerville North’s High School music programs.  The money will be used to support music programs including the Marching Band, Indoor Drumline, Choir, Concert and Jazz Band, and the Orchestra.

Happy Birthday, Dear Fouse Elementary School!

When Fouse Elementary School opened its doors to students in 2002, under somewhat chaotic circumstances, times were different.  Original building principal Karen McClellan, now retired from Westerville City Schools, returned for a birthday celebration held on Thursday morning, May 21.  Guests of honor were the first kindergarten class, who will graduate from high school tomorrow.  McClellan recalled some permitting glitches which didn’t allow occupancy in the school until just hours before the first day.

Westerville South Theatre Department Car Wash is Tomorrow

If your car is dirty, you might consider heading over to Fazoli’s at the corner of Heatherdown and State Street in Westerville on Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Have some lunch while members of the Westerville South Theatre Department wash your car.  Donations will be greatly appreciated.

Hanby Partners with Generations Performing Arts Center to Stage Cinderella

Second grade Hanby Elementary students in the classrooms of Emily Kessler and Kelly Balaz recently staged a Cinderella Fairytale Dance in the auditorium at Westerville South High School.  The pupils collaborated with Generations Performing Arts Center to put on the performance.  The youngsters worked very hard to learn their dances.  They experienced the arts, through music and dance, and math, by counting steps and finding patterns.

Hanby Students Study Science at Otterbein University

Students from Frank Hatcher’s science education class at Otterbein University hosted their annual Pizza Box Science labs for the 2nd and 5th grade Math and Science Magnet classes of Hanby.  This is a partnership that allows both pupils of Hanby’s Math/Science Magnet and the education students of Otterbein to learn and collaborate about science together.
