Schools Break for Labor Day

In observation of Labor Day, school will not be held and offices will be closed in the Westerville City School District on Monday, September 1, 2014.  Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, September 2.

Pointview Students Encouraged to Demonstrate PRIDE through Good Behavior at School

On Friday, August 15, all students in grade 1-5 attended a school-wide assembly to focus on those behaviors that demonstrate P.R.I.D.E. on the playground and in the cafeteria.  Pupils had an opportunity to collaborate with their peers to identify behaviors that were safe, responsible, and respectful.

Community leaders gathered on the steps of Westerville’s City Hall on Tuesday evening, August 19, to get drenched in buckets of ice water as part of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge phenomenon that is sweeping the country.

Three School Cafeterias in Westerville Get Stunning Makeovers

On the first day of school this year, students at Annehurst Elementary, Blendon Middle and Westerville South High Schools were introduced to fully remodeled cafeterias.  The focus of the remodeling process was to meet the changes expected by the students and improve the service and selection available.

Central Physics Students Challenged to Build a Tower to Withstand the Weight of Bricks

Physics students at Westerville Central High School recently participated in the annual “Bargain Brick Build.”  During this activity they are challenged to build a tower out of an unlimited supply of note cards, paperclips, pieces of tape, and staples that can hold as many bricks as possible.

Early Learning Center Staff Donates School Supplies to Pupils in Need

When word got out that some students in the Westerville City School District might not be able to afford needed supplies to begin the new school year, employees at the Early Learning Center started bringing in donations.  By the week’s end, the “pile” had grown to an impressive proportion.  The supplies will be distributed among pupils at several elementary schools.

Schools, Community Join Forces to Sponsor Honor Flight on September 27

Westerville’s sixth community-sponsored Honor Flight of veterans to Washington D.C. will take place on Saturday, September 27.  The Honor Flight program flies senior veterans from WWII and the Korean conflict to the nation’s capitol to see their monuments, free of charge, as a way of thanking them for their service to our country.

Kindergarten Students are off to a Good Start in Westerville

Monday, August 18 marked the first day of kindergarten in 12 Westerville City School District elementary buildings, where 886 children began their educational journey.  Many were sporting new clothes and big smiles, but an apprehensive tear or two was spotted on a few children and parents.

First Day of Preschool Met with Enthusiasm by District’s Youngest Students

Monday, August 18 marked the first day of preschool in the Westerville City School District when more than 250 children, along with their parents, excitedly walked through the doors at 936 Eastwind Drive, ready to learn.

Walnut Springs Fishing Club Members Fare Well at State Tournament

Members of the Walnut Springs Middle School Fishing Club participated in the 2014 Ohio Junior Bass Federation State Tournament on Sunday, August 3. The tournament, held at Indian Lake State Park, in Russell’s Point, Ohio, included 74 anglers, ages 11 through 18
