Westerville City Schools (WCS) continues to offer students new learning opportunities for high school credit. Beginning this summer with Summer Learning Opportunities, WCS will be offering its high school Health course on-line. The on-line version of this course was created by Westerville North High School instructor Chris Poynter, using the Schoology Framework, which operates much like Facebook. The course covers the Health curriculum that has been taught in the typical classroom setting in previous years. Beginning this summer, students can enroll in this on-line course to complete the required .5 Health credit for graduation. The Summer School registration deadline is May 25, 2012. The on-line Health course will also be offered to students during the regular school year beginning in August of 2012. WCS will also be piloting a summer school course titled “Career & Life Essentials for College and Beyond.” This is another on-line course geared toward students who are planning to attend college, enter the workforce, or manage finances for the future. Topics include career planning, how to find a job, the college selection process, budgeting for the future, debt management, personal resource management, and much more. Both of these on-line courses allow students to work from home and at their own pace. Computers at the Academic Enrichment Center (AEC), located at 336 S. Otterbein Avenue, will also be available for use from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., Monday through Friday.
