This is my fourteenth year as a seventh grade language arts educator at Genoa Middle School. I have my BS in Middle Childhood Education from Ohio University and completed my MA in English Education from The Ohio State University in March of 2012. I am proud to have been honored during the 2008-2009 school year with the Educator of the Year Award for my building. I come from a family of educators and feel like teaching is not only my career path but my calling in life. As a seventh grade language arts teacher, I feel that I have the opportunity to share novels with my students to not only teach them elements of a story and the writing craft, but to help them learn that books allow us to question our beliefs and look critically at our society. It is through our discussions that I get to hear their voices and learn about them. While literature is the vehicle, it is getting to understand my students and helping to guide them to be critical thinkers that truly excites me as an educator. I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that will allow for the intellectual growth of my students and myself in the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.
  • "When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young." -Maya Angelou
  • “Teachers, administrators, and parents should treat students not as manageable products quantifiable by standardized and normed tests. Rather they ought to approach students as bearers of diverse social memories with a right to speak and represent themselves in the quest for learning and self-determination.” –Daspit & Weaver
  • "That is part of the beauty of literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings; that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong." F.Scott Fitzgerald
  • " The book to read is not the one that thinks for you but the one which makes you think." -Harper Lee
