During the 2018-19, Genoa’s Black History Month Club was created. Students themed that year’s celebration Be the Light, based on a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  They filled our hallways with historically significant music, had homerooms collaboratively create a banner, and created a Spirit Week.  They also organized the first annual Black History Month and Cultural Celebration program. 

For 2019-20, the club members built upon that first year's precedents and added more.  The chosen theme was "Bigger Than Me."  These students created Black History Moments for our announcements and initiated a fundraising effort as well benefiting the Cameron Boyce Foundation.

For the 2020-21 school year, our planning will begin in November to work on fulfilling the vision of the first planners of BHM at GMS.  Please stay tuned for upcoming meetings.  Contact Mrs. Thompson if you have any questions.
