Two educators from the Westerville City School District (WCSD) were honored during the Ohio Energy Project’s annual Youth Energy Celebration, which was held May 8 at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
Julie McSwords, a science teacher at Genoa Middle School, received an Eagle Award for 10 years of participation. Debbie Pellington, gifted facilitator at Genoa and Heritage middle schools, earned a Tesla Award for 15 years of participation.
Both teachers were lauded for outstanding work they have done through the Westerville Energy Education Partnership, a collaboration between the City of Westerville Electric Division, Westerville City Schools and the Ohio Energy Project. This group provides professional development, student programs and classroom resources for all 21 schools in the WCSD. The Westerville Energy Education Partnership was named Outstanding School District in Ohio, and National Energy Education Development Project (NEED) School District of the Year.
