Walnut Springs’ Doel to Compete at State Geographic Bee for the Third Year in a Row

Matthew Doel, an eighth grade student at Walnut Springs Middle School, has been named an Ohio National Geographic Bee Semifinalist by the National Geographic Society.  This marks the third year in a row that he has qualified for the State level of competition in the National Geographic Bee, which is sponsored by The National Geographic Society, Google and Plum Creek.

Doel is one of the top 100 competitors from 336 schools in Ohio to qualify for the State Bee.  They will compete on Friday, April 5 at Grandview Heights High School for the title of State Champion.  The winner of that contest will represent Ohio in the National finals May 20 - 22 in Washington D.C. and compete for a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
