The Westerville City School District Board of Education is conducting a superintendent search, necessitated by the retirement of Dr. Dan Good. The Ohio School Boards Association will be managing the search on the Board of Education’s behalf.
The search process will include profile development, dissemination of marketing materials through print and electronic media, aggressive recruitment, a professional pre-screening, reference checking and interviews. The search will run through December 11, interviews will occur in January, and the Board anticipates announcing the new superintendent in early February.

The Westerville City School District Board of Education today announced that it has selected Dr. John Kellogg as its next Superintendent of Schools (read news release). Dr. Kellogg will assume the Superintendency on July 1, 2013, subsequent to the retirement of Dr. Dan Good.The Board of Education will vote on Dr. Kellogg’s contract during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. on February 11, 2013.

The Westerville Board of Education has completed first round interviews with nine high quality superintendent candidates. Based on those first round interviews, six candidates have been invited back for a second round. Those candidates are:

Steven Estepp, executive director K-12 curriculum & instruction, Hilliard City Schools;

James Herrholtz, associate superintendent, Ohio Department of Education;
-
John Kellogg, assistant superintendent of curriculum, South-Western City Schools;
-
Deborah Piotrowski, superintendent, Xenia Community Schools;
-
Michael Sawyers, acting superintendent of public instruction, Ohio Department of Education; and
-
John Stanford, deputy superintendent, Columbus City Schools.
The second round interviews will be conducted Jan 15, 16 and 17. The Board of Education is planning to invite community members to participate in a third round of interviews on Thursday, January 31. Details are still being finalized, but will include an opportunity for interested community members to participate in an evening forum after which they can provide feedback on the candidates to the Board of Education.
