About 60 educators and support staff from across Westerville City Schools got their first look at the building they are interested in working at next fall: the new Minerva France Elementary School.

Tyson Hilkert, who was recently named principal of Minerva France, and Barbara Wallace, executive director of Elementary Schools, greeted staff before Scott Dorne, assistant superintendent of operations and Jeff Lerose, director of facilities, led groups in a 15-minute, hard-hat tour of the space.

While the building is still under construction, staff could see the progress made to the building’s administrative spaces, gym, cafeteria, music and art rooms and various classrooms. The design of the school pays tribute to the former Minerva Park Amusement Park. The curved portion of the building’s exterior was inspired by the amusement park’s Scenic Railway roller-coaster, while its turrets reflect architectural details of a building once on the amusement park’s grounds.

There will be an extended open house opportunity for all WCSD employees and the community sometime after the project has been completed in the spring.
