The Westerville South High School Marching Band, conducted by band director John Laswell, received a Superior rating at the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) State Marching Band Contest held at Medina High School this month. In addition to the Superior rating, the band was awarded Superior ratings from every single judge — the highest rating given to marching bands in the OMEA Marching Band circuit.

WSHS’ show, “Empire State of Mind,” tapped into the sights and sounds of New York and featured music from Billy Joel, Weather Report, Frank Sinatra, Jay-Z, and Alicia Keys.
