Lifeline’s Will Combs explains the packing process.

Approximately 40 members of the Westerville South High School Cross Country team met in rooms 148 and 150 after school on September 28 to measure, weigh, seal and box food that will be sent to victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas.  These shelf-stable meals are a mix of beans, rice, dehydrated vegetables, flavoring and vitamins.  Their efforts were part of a project called 57,000 Meals for Texas.  Jennifer and Will Combs, from the Lifeline Christian Mission in Westerville, coordinated the effort.  They are the parents of one of the runners, sophomore Isaac Combs.

After just a couple of hours, the young athletes, organized by Coach Jimmy Gaul, packed a whopping  1,116 bags of food that contained 7,848 servings – 4,608 servings of oatmeal and 3,240 servings of rice and beans.
