Students at Cherrington and Wilder Elementary schools enjoyed a special visit from Michael Patrick O’Neill on Wednesday, November 4. Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, O’Neill is an award-winning photographer and author specializing in marine wildlife and environmental issues. He lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and, according to his website, has spent the last 23 years traveling extensively worldwide photographing diverse aquatic animals, habitats and man’s impact on them. He has written and photographed seven non-fiction marine life books designed to encourage school children to read, write and become involved in science and conservation. When not taking photographs or writing, O’Neill is on the lecture circuit promoting a greater appreciation for the natural world, especially the oceans and their inhabitants. He has presented to more than 400,000 children in more than 400 schools throughout the U.S. in the past 11 years, and his images have appeared in hundreds of publications worldwide.
