Richard W. Bird was appointed by the Board of Education on June 9, 2014, to complete the unexpired term of Cindy Crowe. He subsequently won election to his appointed seat in November of 2015 and is now starting his third year of board service in the district.
Richard is currently an Executive Director with Optiv, where he provides senior executive level consulting to Chief Information Security Officers and Boards of Directors. He was formerly the Head of Information Security & Compliance (CISO) for Mettler-Toledo International Inc. and the Head of Internal Cybersecurity for all of the JPMorgan Chases’ consumer businesses. Richard has several career stops as a senior executive in technology, including as a Chief Information Officer. He has worked globally, in approximately 27 different countries.
Richard acknowledges a great personal debt to the public education system; having attended Danbury Local High School in Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio and furthering his studies at The Ohio State University. Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and has engaged in graduate studies in project and program management at George Washington University.
Richard is a published writer and avid speaker. He is also an active member of the Westerville community; having served as the chair of the Microcredit Committee of Westerville Sunrise Rotary, 2nd Vice-Commander for American Legion Post 171 and as a leader with Boy Scout Troop 64. In the broader Central Ohio area, Richard has served on the Columbus Museum of Art Board of Trustees, American Red Cross of Central Ohio Board of Directors and the Ohio Association of Non-Profit Organizations Board of Directors.
Richard is the father of 4, with his youngest daughter attending currently Westerville Central High School. He is a long-time member of Heritage Christian Church.
