Dear Wildcat Families,
With a new year comes a new set of opportunities for students, staff and the community. At Westerville South, we are confident that the 17-18 school year will provide just that for everyone. As principal, I am beyond excited about our senior class and the prospective leaders within the group. Coming off of a year where we raised our graduation rate by approximately 5%, we are more than confident that the seniors of 2018 will continue our positive momentum with leadership, academics and involvement.
Our school has firm beliefs surrounding education. First, we believe in literacy development and particularly focus on argumentative and persuasive writing. Students, and parents, can expect to see writing as a focus of the classroom teachers at South. In visiting classrooms and seeing lessons unfold last year, students honed their skills on our rubric and developed their capabilities in expressing themselves as writers. This year, we plan to do the same. Secondly, for teachers, we have a strong focus in collaboration in an effort to develop the most quality lessons. Our staff will continue to meet, during designated planning times, to create empowering lessons in each domain. I have been very impressed with the staff at South and I am proud of the continued growth of these instructors.
As we enter the school year, please encourage your student to get involved. We believe that relationships are the key to success in school and in life. The more involved a student is, the more he/she is likely to flourish in the school setting. Also, we encourage parents to be involved. That said, I hope to see each of you at a game or an event very soon.
On behalf of everyone at Westerville South, I wish each of you a safe and happy end to your summer and the best school year ever.
Michael W. Starner, Principal
