Dear Hanby Families,

Welcome to Fall! This is a fun time of year! Pumpkins, leaves, hayrides, and cooler weather are all on the horizon! There are a lot of activities that will happen in the community and at Hanby as well! Here are just a few:

October is National Bully Prevention Month! Please spend time talking with your child regarding being kind to others and problem solving when faced with conflict. As you know Hanby utilizes a Problem Solving Posters to provide solutions and guide students when dealing with situations. (Please see the Problem Solver Poster included with this issue of the Newsletter). Did you know that Hanby has a Buddy Bench on the playground to encourage students to Be a Buddy-Not a Bully?  What is a Buddy Bench (also known as a Friendship Bench)? Find out more information  here: http://tinyurl.com/yc8gjv6f

On October 13th, 9:00am at McNamera Park, the Hanby PTA 5K Bubble Run/Walk will be held! Did you know that the funds raised go to support school wide activities/field trips for Hanby? Please consider participating and tell your friends! There is still time to register! More information and a registration link can be found here: http://blog.hanbyrun.com/

Parent Teacher conferences will be held this month, during the 3rd week of October. Please reach out to your child's teacher to ensure you have reserved your spot for this very important meeting. We strive for 100% attendance as we know that working together as a team helps Hanby students soar to new heights!

Also this month, on October 31st, Hanby will have Dress like Your Favorite Book Character Day and host Fall Celebrations! As in previous years a prize will be rewarded for the most original and creative costume. Each student who dresses up should also bring a copy of the book to share with their class. We realize this is the same day as Halloween and students may have different costumes for that. However, for the school "Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character Day", we ask that the items used to dress up at school are still school appropriate.

In an effort to maintain our safe and positive learning environment -students will NOT be permitted to wear masks, make up, or carry any dangerous props (i.e. plastic knives, fake guns, etc.) Thanks in advance for your support with this! Your child's teacher will send home more information regarding this day soon!

These are just a few of the exciting things coming up soon at Hanby! Thank you so much for your continued support of these and other events!

Sincerely,

Monica Brown
